Dr Barry McCabe is a highly experienced colorectal and general surgeon, known for his compassionate, patient-centred approach and commitment to holistic care. He specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal conditions, bowel cancer, and a wide range of general and colorectal surgical procedures, with a strong focus on minimally invasive techniques.
Dr McCabe completed his medical degree at the University of Newcastle, graduating in 2000. He undertook advanced surgical training at Westmead Hospital, achieving Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in General Surgery in 2008. He later completed subspecialty training in colorectal surgery through the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ), receiving his CSSANZ Fellowship in 2012.
Since 2012, Dr McCabe has been practising inSydney where he is recognised as a pioneer and strong advocate for minimally invasive and keyhole surgery. Early in his career, he conducted pioneering research into advanced endoscopic techniques, including Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR). In 2017, he performed Australia’s first robotic trans-anal EMR for the removal of a rectal tumour.
Dr McCabe performs all colonoscopy and gastroscopy procedures, as well as general and colorectal surgery. He offers a No Gap policy for endoscopy procedures for patients with Medicare and eligible private health insurance.
He also performs minor surgical procedures under local anaesthesia, providing convenient care without the need for hospital admission.
